Aaron Smith II Claims Checkered Flag in Caution-Filled Race at Charlotte! Heads to Iowa Next!

The Season 7 Apex Energy Summer Series presented by Boone CDJR kicked off with a dramatic race at Charlotte Motor Speedway!  Numerous caution flags and strategic tire changes kept fans on the edge of their seats throughout the 70-lap event.

Early Lead Swaps: Aaron Smith II emerged as a strong contender early, taking the lead from Randy Bechdel on lap 16. Logan Truitt then wrestled the lead away from Smith on lap 38.

A Race of Attrition: The caution flags flew frequently throughout the race, with incidents involving slow cars and repairs needed. Drivers faced penalties for speeding in the pits, unsafe entries or exits, and even entering closed pits.

Close Fight to the Finish:  The lead changed hands numerous times between Aaron Smith II, Jacob Szala, Evan Pienta, Josh Ward, and Justin M. Wilson. With 10 laps to go, Aaron Smith II retook the lead from Justin M. Wilson.

Tire Strategy Decides the Victor:  A late-race caution proved pivotal. Those who had saved a fresh set of tires for the closing laps were at an advantage.  Aaron Smith II capitalized on his tire strategy, holding off a hard-charging Josh Ward to secure the checkered flag.
