Former Slingshot Champion Wilson Steals Victory in Dramatic Daytona Finish!

The Season 7 opener of the SRL Apex Energy Summer Series presented by Boone CDJR at Daytona International Speedway became a night of redemption for former Slingshot Champion Justin M. Wilson! In a last-lap thriller, Wilson snatched victory from the grasp of Braxton Deweese, proving his dominance on the high banks.

The early laps were a showcase of fierce competition, with Dan Berg, Randy Bechdel, Logan Truitt, and Patrick Pieper swapping the lead in a high-speed ballet.  The tight racing reached a fever pitch on lap 30 with a heart-stopping four-wide fight in the trioval, forcing the first caution of the night.

The drama continued after the restart. Another close three-wide battle in the trioval on lap 35 sent the caution flag out again, this time with Dan Berg unfortunately getting caught up in a crash that saw his car barrel roll. Thankfully, Berg emerged unharmed from the incident.  This dramatic accident set the stage for an unforgettable final lap.

With a powerful push from Logan Truitt, Wilson surged to the front in the closing moments. Deweese, who had led a significant portion of the race, fought valiantly but came up just short, crossing the finish line in second place.

But the drama wasn't over.  Several cars tangled in a last-lap crash, adding another layer of chaos and excitement to the wild finish.

This action-packed season opener served as a potent reminder of the fierce competition, dramatic finishes, and potential dangers that define the SRL series.  With this win, Wilson has now secured back-to-back pre-season victories, setting the tone for a thrilling season ahead. The series now heads to Charlotte for the next round, where all eyes will be on Wilson to see if he can continue his winning streak.
