Smith II Gets Win #3 at Indy!

On Tuesday night, the Apex Energy Truck Series Presented by Hank Thomas Performance drivers stormed into the famed Indianapolis Motorspeedway, and the race lived up to its hype! Aaron Smith II secured his third pole position of the season, but Scottie Sobczak quickly overtook him, with the 81 truck claiming the lead on lap two. Trouble struck early on lap 4 when Cordell Lofgren had to ease off the gas due to a slower car ahead, resulting in his back bumper being struck by another truck.

By lap 17, pit strategy and an early stop catapulted Jonny Rapp into the lead. Just four laps into that stint, the most significant crash of the night occurred. A tightly positioned Josh Ward scraped the wall on the exit of turn 4, sending his truck careening into Scott Tompkins' 25 truck, which then collided with Dan Rowe's 68, forcing Rowe into the pit road barrier.

Sobczak regained the lead around the two-thirds mark of the race, but a well-timed caution allowed Ry Jones as well as Chase Barry to position themselves at the front for the restart. Although Jones showed promise, he couldn't fend off Aaron Smith, who gradually pulled away after a late-race challenge from Nick Luetje. It marked the third win of the season for the HTP #70 team and Aaron Smith II.
